  • 2 regular size or large rubber bands of any color

  • Buttons and googly eyes for facial features if you want to add some character

10 Steps to Make Teddy Bears From Hand Towels

Here’s a step-by-step guide with everything you need to know how to fold a teddy bear into a towel!

  1. Lay the towel down on a flat surface, such as a table. With the towel facing you landscape-style, meaning the long ends are horizontal and the shorter ends are vertical, fold the left side of the towel inward toward the right, so the edge would mark the center of the towel.

  2. Next, roll the bottom edge of the towel away from you, inward towards the top edge of the towel, stopping at the center of the towel. Turn the towel around, so the rolled edge is now away from you. You can place a book on the rolled edge of the towel to prevent it from unraveling. Complete the same rolling action away from you with the opposite edge of the towel, stopping when it meets the other rolled edge. Your towel should now look something like a rolled-up scroll.

  3. With the towel facing you on the table, rolled edges facing up towards the sky, lift the towel with both hands, one on each end of the towel, about 2 inches in from the edge. Fold the towel with rolled edges outward, so your knuckles are against each other. Then, grab the folded towel and place it back down on the table so that half of the rolled edges are touching the table, and the other half is facing up towards the sky.

  4. Grab the top part of the towel that has the rolls facing up and unfold the towel, keeping your hand around the edge so that your knuckles are touching the table. With your other hand, take the other side of the towel and twist it away from you, so the rolled edges of that side are facing upward. Then place your hand on top of it to prevent it from moving.

  5. Take the side with the rolled edges facing downward — the right side if you are right-handed — and fold it inward, so all rolled edges are facing upward. Pull the same side in about 1-2 inches, leaving the bottom longer than the top.

  6. Wrap one hand around the entire towel, holding it in place while exposing the side without the edges. Start unraveling the rolls on this side, stopping when there are about 3 inches of space between the two rolls. With both hands, gently unroll outward once, stopping when both rolls have reached the table. These rolls will be the arms of the teddy bear towel, so if you want them to be thicker or thinner, you can roll them in or out more, if you prefer.

  7. Scrunching the arms into the middle bulk of the towel, take one of the large rubber bands and wrap it around the middle of the towel — you can choose where to place it, depending on how large you want the head to be. You should now start to see the bear shape!

  8. With the teddy bear towel now facing you, decide on the size of the ears. At the top of the towel, take a small rubber band and wrap it around the top corner of the towel to make an ear. You can adjust it to make it smaller or larger. Then, complete the same action with the other side to make the other ear. To shape the head a little more, take another large rubber band and wrap it where the other one is, right under the hand towel teddy bear head, as many times as possible.

  9. Place your ribbon horizontally on the table and place your bear directly on top, so its neck and the rubber bands are in line with the ribbon. Tie a bow or a tie with your ribbon.

  10. If you want to add facial features to your teddy bear towel, simply paste your googly eyes and buttons wherever you want.
